The Oshikoji family had the status of Toshoke (the Kanin line of the Northern House of the FUJIWARA clan).

The Oshikoji family was a court noble family with the family rank of Urinke. Between 1661 to 1673, the Oshikoji family was founded by Kinoto, the second son of Kimikatsu SANJONISHI. The name 'Oshikoji' was a toponym. Their hereditary stipend was 130 koku.

The Oshikoji family was a branch of the Sanjonishi family; although the hereditary business of the Sanjonishi family was the composition and study of waka poetry, the Oshikoji family was famous for their Chinese poetry. After the Meiji Restoration, the family held the title of viscount.

The Oshikoji family was Jigeke (Nakahara family).

The Oshikoji family was Jigeke and a court official family that served the Imperial Court.
After the latter half of the Muromachi period, they called themselves 'Oshikoji.'
The family inherited the hereditary academic skill of Confucian studies 'Myogyodo.'
The family served as Geki, the external secretariat (fourth grade of the four grades of clerks) for generations and were called 'Kyokumu.'

The family produced Myogyo hakase (scholar), and later, concurrently served as Kamon no Kami (Head of the Bureau of Housekeeping) and Miki no Tsukasa (Head of the Brewery). Their hereditary stipend was fifty-four koku. After the Meiji Restoration, the family held the title of baron.

Although the family was Jigeke, Morosuke and Moronori were bestowed upon Jusanmi (Junior Third Rank) during the latter half of the Edo period.

The Shimizu family and the Yamaguchi family, were Jigeke, and were branches of the Oshikoji family,
